“Avenne—time to go.”
Those four words—spoken by her mother in the middle of the night—will change fifteen-year-old Avenne’s life forever.
Instead of watching campy monster movies with her best friend, Charlotte, Avenne finds herself living in her own personal creature feature. A brain-infecting zombie fungus has jumped species and is making people bite their friends and family. As the epidemic spreads across the continent, Avenne and her mother take refuge in the middle school where Sara taught before the epidemic led the government to shut everything down.
With her life upended by the zombie apocalypse, Avenne’s ability to think on her feet and become an equal partner with her mother – as well as her ability to see the humor in the direst of circumstances – become key to their survival.
But can she prove to herself and her mother that she has what it takes to survive? And with the entire continent—and maybe the world—ravaged by this zombie fungus, what if there’s nothing left to survive for?
