Lynda Melban White
Lynda Melban White writes horror/suspense novels and short stories for both teens and adults. She creates complex, relatable characters who are thrust into strange and unexpected situations, requiring them to grow and adapt as they face often otherworldly challenges. Her writing presents strong, capable women who are self-reliant, and while searching for connections, do not need a man’s support or assistance to thwart their adversaries.

Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy Author
Lynda’s love of writing began almost as soon as she learned to read. By the time she was eight, Lynda was writing stories about her model horses – who all had names, individual personalities, and extensively detailed backstories. By middle school, she had discovered the Star Trek universe and delved into both Heinlein’s and Tolkien’s works. While virtually all these reading experiences revolved around male protagonists, Lynda dreamed of inserting herself into these imaginary worlds as a strong, capable female main character, who often saved the day through unorthodox thinking rather than brute strength. Lynda wrote her first novel her senior year of high school – a time-traveling fantasy that involved the human heroine body-swapping with a centaur – filling over 250 pages with a compact scrawl that won a regional writing contest sponsored by a local bookstore.
In addition to her dedication to her own stories, Lynda continues to be an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, and horror/suspense literature. Lynda is happiest surrounded by her menagerie of pets, which over the years has included everything from cats and dogs to more exotic creatures like iguanas and rats. She also enjoys visiting zoos and aquariums, and communing with the natural world found just outside her door. She often incorporates animals – both wild and domestic – into her narratives, using them to illuminate and illustrate characters’ temperament and growth.
Lynda’s first published novel, ILK, about a mother and daughter confronting the monster in the closet, is available on Amazon. The first chapter of her current project, Twenty-twenty Boom! How I Survived the North American Zombie Apocalypse, was a winner of Bardsy’s First Chapters contest, and was featured in their Spring 2023 Anthology. Her fantasy short story, Grief’s Dragons, was published in Bardsy’s Fall 2024 Anthology, and several of her other short stories have been finalists in other international competitions. Through her writing, Lynda loves to explore familial relationships – especially the complexities of the bond between mothers and daughters – in extreme, often chilling, situations. This overarching parent and child theme presents endless possibilities for her to continue exploring in both current and future projects.
